Recently, a video of the former Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, allegedly saying that he resigned in protest and handed over the command to General Dhiraj Seth, went viral on social media. In the viral video, Upendra Dwivedi says, “…We are being made scapegoat for something that we never participated in. It was Center’s decision to hide the casualties in Operation Sindoor. Minister Rajnath Singh clearly said in parliament on oath that Indian Army suffered no losses & now people like Vikram Misri are being used to set blame on military leadership, exonerating the political decision making, which we followed. For this, I am resigning in protest and handing over the command to General Dhiraj Seth…”

However, upon investigation, we found that the video had been edited. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

At the beginning of our investigation, we noticed that the audio seemed unnatural. 

We took some screenshots from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. This led us to the original video live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of ANI News on June 30, 2026. The video shows Army General Upendra Dwivedi’s farewell in Delhi. Nowhere in the video did Upendra Dwivedi state anything as shown in the viral video.

Moreover, PIB Fact Check refuted the claim and stated that the viral video has been edited using AI.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the video has been altered. In the original video, Upendra Dwivedi did not make any such statement. The viral video has been edited using AI.
