International Misleading

Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Philippines on June 8, 2026, a video of two skyscrapers went viral on social media. The video shows a bridge between two skyscrapers detaching during an earthquake. Sharing the video, a user wrote, “During the powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Philippines, a connecting section between two skyscrapers reportedly detached, causing the structure to sway dramatically like a pendulum. However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was misleading. The viral video is old and not from the Philippines. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a YouTube channel where the viral video was uploaded on March 29, 2025.

According to the caption, the video was from Bangkok.

Moving forward, we learned that the structure in the viral video is Park Origin Thonglor in Bangkok.

We found the viral video on the official YouTube channel of ABC News Australia on March 29, 2025. The description of the video read, “A bridge connecting a high-rise apartment building in Bangkok broke off as a powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar shook neighbouring countries, including Thailand.

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake caused damage to buildings in the Thai capital, including the toppling of a skyscraper under construction.

Eyewitness video also showed another building’s rooftop pool spilling onto the streets as the quake shook residential buildings across the city.”

Other reports can be seen here and here.

This makes it clear that the viral video is from the 2025 Thailand-Myanmar earthquake.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video doesn’t show the recent earthquake in the Philippines. This is an old video from the 2025 Thailand-Myanmar earthquake. The structure in the viral video is “Park Origin Thonglor” in Bangkok.
