Recently, a cruise capsized at the Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh killing at least 9 people. After this tragic incident, the bodies of a mother and her four-year-old were recovered. According to reports, the mother and son were strapped to the same life jacket and the mother was still clutching her child to her chest. Against this backdrop, a photo went viral on social media claiming it to be the photo of the mother and son, who lost their lives in the tragic accident.

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was misleading. The viral photo is AI-generated. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
At the beginning of our investigation, we noticed some abnormalities in the viral photo. The eyebrows of the mother, the skin texture of both the mother and the son and the mother’s bangle were not natural. These abnormalities are generally found in the AI-generated images.

AI-Detector tools suggested that the photo could be generated using AI.

Moving forward, we found a tweet on the official X handle of the Jabalpur Collector that refuted the claim. The tweet read, “Jabalpur — This photo is AI-generated or from some other source. It has no connection with the Bargi cruise accident.”

The original photo can be seen here and here.
This makes it clear that the viral photo doesn’t show the mother and son who lost their lives in the Bargi Dam Cruise accident.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral photo doesn’t show the mother and son who lost their lives in the Bargi Dam Cruise accident. The photo is AI-generated.
