However, upon investigation, we found that the claim was misleading. The viral video is old and unrelated to the Phuket-Delhi flight. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a YouTube channel where the viral video was uploaded on June 17, 2019. 

The translation of the German description read, “Passengers panicked, and a flight attendant was thrown against the ceiling. Ten people were injured due to turbulence on a flight to Basel. A passenger recorded footage on board.”

We found the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel “Euro News” on June 19, 2019. The translation of the French description read, “As this amateur video shows, the passengers and crew of this Pristina-Basel flight had the scare of their lives on Sunday when their plane flew through an area of severe turbulence, leaving around ten people injured.”

A report published in The New York Post on June 17, 2019, that contained the viral video, read, “It’s a good thing these passengers buckled up. Watch the scary moment an attendant on a flight going from Pristina, Serbia, to Basel, Switzerland, goes flying from severe turbulence. Video shows the airline worker and her cart hitting the ceiling and coming crashing down on the seats. Ten people were later taken to the hospital for injuries, including burns from the hot water that was spilled in the dramatic accident.”

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the Phuket-Delhi flight turbulence incident.
