We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to a report published by the New Indian Express on 9 August 2025 that features a screenshot of the viral video. The caption states, “Uttarakhand’s Dharali village wiped out by flash floods; survivors struggle amid devastation.” This indicates that video is old and not related to the recent Assam flood.
As per reports, “The Himalayan village of Dharali in the Uttarkashi district has been nearly erased after a suspected cloudburst triggered a deadly flash flood and mudslide.”

Another report states, “Surging floodwaters and a torrent of mud swept through a village in the northern Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, killing at least four people while more than 50 others were missing.”
On 5 August, 2025, a powerful cloudburst triggered a catastrophic flash flood and massive mudslide in Dharali village, located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The sudden wall of mud and swelling waters from the Kheerganga (Kheer Gad) River swept away numerous homes, hotels, and shops, leaving severe destruction in the Himalayan settlement.
This clearly confirms that this video is old and does not show the visuals from Assam.
