Several parts of Assam have been submerged in floods since July 19, 2026. Against this backdrop, a video of a massive landslide went viral on social media, claiming it to be a recent incident in Assam.

However, upon investigation, we found that the claim was misleading. The viral video is from Kerala. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published in NDTV on August 3, 2026, that contained a clip similar to the viral video.
According to the report, relentless rain triggered a landslide in Malappuram, causing soil and mud to crash onto a key state highway.
The video report on the official YouTube channel of NDTV can be seen below.
The description of the video read, “Relentless rain triggered a landslide in Malappuram, sending soil and mud crashing onto a key state highway. The affected area includes residential properties and a school, with authorities closely monitoring the situation as heavy rainfall continues across Keralam.”
Another report read, “Several landslides caused by heavy rainfall have struck the Nadukani-Parappanangadi State Highway in Malappuram, Keralam, resulting in a complete suspension of traffic along the route. The initial landslide was soon followed by several others at the same location, between Edeypalam and Karathodu on the Malappuram-Vengara route. A large section of the hillside collapsed onto the road, depositing significant amounts of soil, large trees, and rocks onto the highway and the nearby Kadalundi River. A second landslide occurred while police and firefighting personnel were still present, assessing the scene.”

This makes it clear that the viral video is from Kerala.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video doesn’t show a landslide in Assam. The video is from Malappuram, Kerala.
