The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections are set to be announced on May 4, 2026. In this context, a video is circulating on social media that depicts security personnel lathi-charging individuals on the street, with the claim that it depicts violence during the recent West Bengal Assembly elections. The claim suggests that security forces assaulted voters during polling.
Let’s check the truth
Fact check:
By closely observing the video, we found the logo of ‘Law TV.’ Using these hints, we conducted further searches, which led us to the Facebook page of ‘Law TV’ and found that it is a Dhaka-based news organization. Here, we found the viral video uploaded on 15 February 2026. This indicates that the video is not recent and not related to the recent West Bengal assembly election. The caption stated that this was from election day, when the military’s behaviour toward civilians was similar. Bangladesh held its 13th parliamentary election on 12 February 2026.

We also noted that the vehicle number plates featured Bengali numerals. In India, vehicle registration plates use English characters, indicating that the video is probably not from West Bengal.

So, it is clear that an old and unrelated video was falsely shared as a recent incident during the West Bengal election.
Conclusion
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This is an old video from Bangladesh and not related to the recent West Bengal assembly election.
