The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of devotees of Shiva, known as Kanwariyas, and this year’s pilgrimage wrapped up on 11 August, 2026. A video linking it to the event is going viral on social media. The video allegedly shows a group of Kanwariyas attacking a CRPF soldier at a railway station. The video claims that a CRPF jawan was assaulted by Kanwariyas at Mirzapur in a recent incident.
Let’s check the truth.
Fact check:
We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to a report by the Times of India published in July 2025. As per the report, three Kanwariyas were arrested for assaulting a CRPF jawan during a fight over train tickets at the Mirzapur railway station.
This clearly indicates that the viral video is not recent.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found several media reports regarding this event. According to a video report by NDTV uploaded on 20 July 2025, the Kanwariyas thrashed a soldier at a railway station in Mirzapur after an argument over buying a ticket. The soldier was travelling to board the Brahmaputra Express. The railway police reached the spot and arrested seven Kanwariyas. A case has been filed against them.
Moving forward, we found a PTI report, which quoted Government Railway Police Inspector Raghavendra as saying that GRP personnel deployed at the spot tried to bring the situation under control.
There have been numerous incidents of violence by the Kanwariyas during the Kanwar Yatra in 2026 also, but this video dates back to 2025.
Conclusion
Fact Crescendo found that the claim was shared without proper context. This video is from July 2025 and is being shared out of context as a recent incident.
