Unrelated Video From Dhubri, Assam Shared As Illegal Immigrants Fleeing From West Bengal.

Recently, a video of a large number of Muslim people walking on the highway went viral on social media. Sharing the video users claimed that they are the illegal immigrants fleeing from West Bengal ahead of the Assembly Elections 2026. Sharing the video on Instagram, a user wrote, “PACKING BAGS BEFORE POLLING DAY. WHY?

Illegal immigrants — caught on camera — fleeing West Bengal ahead of elections.

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was false. The viral video is from a religious gathering in Dhubri, Assam in December 2025. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a tweet on the X handle of The Sentinel where a longer version of the viral video was uploaded on December 28, 2025.

According to the tweet, the video was from Dhubri, Assam.

We found a longer version of the viral video uploaded on an Instagram handle. A text overlay on the video read, “Ijtema”.

To know more, we contacted the Instagram user. The user, Sofikul, confirmed that he shot the video in December 2025 during the last day of “Ijtema”. He said, “It was the last day of Ijtema in December 2025 at Alomganj Gauripur, Dhubri Assam. Some people falsely claimed that it’s related to the West Bengal Assembly Elections”.

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show illegal immigrants fleeing from West Bengal ahead of the Assembly Elections. This is an old video from Alomganj, Gauripur, Dhubri, Assam. The video was shot during a religious gathering “Ijtema” in December 2025.
