An old video of the Salem police two-wheeler patrol initiative is going viral as a new scheme launched by Tamil Nadu CM Vijay.

Misleading Political

Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay officially took the oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on 10 May 2026, marking a historic political shift after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), won the assembly election. After assuming office, Vijay ordered the closure of 717 state-run liquor outlets located within 500 metres of temples, schools, and bus stands across the state. He also announced the launch of a new women’s safety unit named “Singappen Athiradi Padai.” Against this backdrop, a video showing police personnel with new patrolling motorcycles is going viral on social media. Users who share the video claim it shows a new patrol bike initiative launched by CM Vijay after assuming office.

Let’s check the truth.

Fact check:

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google with the keyframes from the viral video, and the results led us to a Facebook post shared by Polimer News in January. The caption, translated from Tamil to English, reads, “From now on, patrols will be active 24 hours a day. We have launched this initiative to ensure the police remain alert,” the Salem Superintendent of Police said in an interview.

Moving forward, we found a post on the Salem District Police’s official Facebook page on 24 January 2026, featuring images of Gautham Goyal inaugurating the patrol initiative. The images attached to the post also matched the visuals from the viral video. According to the post, the Salem District Police launched the first phase of a 24-hour two-wheeler patrol service to improve emergency response and strengthen surveillance across police station limits in the district. The initiative was also aimed at ensuring immediate response to emergency helpline calls and preventing crimes against women and children.

Taking account of all this evidence, we can understand that an old video of Salem District Police launching a 24-hour two-wheeler patrol service in January 2026 was falsely shared as a new scheme launched by the newly formed TVK government in Tamil Nadu. The visuals clearly predate Vijay becoming Chief Minister and have no connection to any recent scheme announced by his government.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be Misleading. This is an old video, and it shows a 24-hour two-wheeler patrol initiative launched by the Salem District Police in January 2026.
