Amid recent reports of violence in Malda, West Bengal, ahead of the state elections, a video showing armed personnel beating a group of individuals has gone viral on social media. Users have shared the footage, claiming it depicts the Indian Army has reached Malda and is taking action against the rioters.
Let’s check the truth
Fact check:
We started our investigation by closely observing the viral video, and we found the logo of Jamuna TV. Using this hint, we traced the video back to Jamuna TV’s official Facebook page, where it was Uploaded on 12 February 2026 According to the caption, the footage was from Bangladesh and showed the army resorting to a baton charge after individuals attempted to seize a polling centre in Brahmanbaria during the general elections in February 2026.

Moving forward, we found the same video uploaded on the official YouTube channel of another prominent Bangladesh-based news outlet, United News of Bangladesh. Published on 12 February, this video also displayed similar visuals of army personnel assaulting local youths. The description accompanying the video states, “during the voting for the 13th National Parliament Election, tension arose in the Brahmanbaria constituency. When miscreants tried to create chaos in some centers, the army resorted to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.”
So, based on all this evidence, we can understand that this video is actually from Bangladesh. A video of an army lathi charge during riots in Bangladesh’s general elections is falsely shared as an incident from West Bengal.
Conclusion
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This video is from Bangladesh, not West Bengal. The incident happened during elections in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh, in February 2026.
