However, upon investigation, we found that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the Independence Day celebration. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a Facebook post on July 31, 2026, where the viral video was uploaded.
This makes it clear that the viral video predates this year’s Independence Day.
Moving forward, we found a post on an Instagram handle claiming that the video was from a training program held on 22 and 23 March, 2026.
The user, Bhanu Chandrakar, introduced himself as a Former BJP District Vice President (Dhamtari) and MLA representative (Kurud). He wrote that he posted the original video on his Instagram handle. The caption further read that a complaint has been registered against the people and news channels who shared the fake news.
Moving forward, we found the original video on this Instagram handle on March 23, 2026.
The translation of the caption read, “The training session for the Kurud Mandal under the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Training Mega-Campaign was inaugurated on March 22–23 at the Yashwant Rao Smriti Auditorium (within the Swami Vivekananda Mangal Bhavan complex). The event commenced with the hoisting of the BJP flag by guests, speakers, office bearers, and party workers.

We found another post on Facebook containing an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video, uploaded on March 22, 2026.
This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to this year’s Independence Day.

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show BJP party workers in Kurud, Chhattisgarh, hoisting the party flag instead of the Tricolor on this year’s Independence Day. This is an old video from the inauguration of a training program.
