A Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv killed at least seven people and injured 24 on 2 July, according to Ukrainian officials. Against this backdrop, a video is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows a recent Russian missile attack on Ukraine.
Let’s check the truth.
Fact check:
We began our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to a similar video on a Facebook page uploaded on 3 July 2025, and the caption states, “The moment of the explosion on the Zhytomyr highway.”
This indicates that the viral video is not recent.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found several media reports from July 2025 regarding this incident. As per reports, “In the Zhytomyr region, two people died and 15 more were injured as a result of two explosions.”

According to reports, security investigations later found that the explosions occurred at an illegal facility and warehouses used to produce and store explosive materials and devices for profit. Authorities said the suspects stored highly dangerous materials in unsafe locations without permits or legal certification, leading to the disaster due to the warehouse’s proximity to populated residential areas and a major highway.
So, taking account of all this evidence, we can understand that an old video from July 2025 was falsely shared as Russia’s deadliest attack on Ukraine.
Conclusion
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This is an old video, and it shows a massive explosion on the Zhytomyr highway in Ukraine in July 2025.
