On 3 January, 2026, the United States military launched an invasion of Venezuela, capturing and extrajudicially abducting President Nicolás Maduro along with his wife, Cilia Flores. Against this backdrop, a video of people tearing down posters of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro is going viral on social media and users who share the post claims that it shows a recent event after his reported capture by the US.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a Google reverse image search and the results led us to a similar video uploaded on Twitter on 29 July, 2024, claiming it shows a “Maduro banner torn down at Base Aragua in protest against the July 28 fraud.”

Another post from July 2024 states, “Posters of the tyrant Maduro are ripped down in Venezuela right now. We may be witnessing the beginning of an anti-communist revolution.”

As per reports, protests followed the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election on 28 July, in response to voter fraud and other irregularities during the election cycle, as part of the 2024 Venezuelan political crisis. Demonstrations spread nationwide, with protesters in the western state of Falcón toppling a statue of former president Hugo Chávez. In Petare, one of Caracas’s poorest neighbourhoods, demonstrators chanted anti-government slogans, while masked youths tore down Maduro’s campaign posters from lampposts. The security forces were deployed to prevent the protesters from reaching the president’s palace.

So, based on these evidences, we can understand that the video is unrelated to recent unrest in Venezuela.
