Currently, a video of a mob protesting on the street is going viral on social media. In the video, we can see the effigy of PM Modi hung upside down. Users are claiming that this is a recent incident of farmers from Punjab protesting.
However, Fact Crescendo found that the video was shared without proper context. This is an old video from 2020 during the farmer’s bill protest.
Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video posted by a Facebook user in 2020. The user tagged #kissanektazindabad and #farmeraprotest in the caption. Below you can see the post.
From the above fact, it is clear that the viral video is not recent. It dates back to December 2020.
A relevant keyword search led us to Punjab National TV’s Facebook account on 8 December 2020. The same image of PM Modi’s effigy hung upside down on a crane. The caption of the post reads, “On the day of Bharat Bandh, the farmers put up a statue of Modi.”

We also found a report of this incident on Daily Ajit’s Facebook account on 8 December 2020. According to the report, during Bharat Bandh, farmers took out a protest in Lohian, Punjab. With the help of cranes and tractors, the protestors hung PM Modi’s effigy upside down. This protest was carried out in a market area of Lohian. Farmers had also carried out a peaceful protest at Bhagat Singh chowk but sometime in afternoon they burned the effigies as well.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found that the video was shared without proper context. This is an old video from 2020 during farmers’ protests and not a recent one. This incident took place in Lohian, Punjab.
