Are these the recent images of the Lakshadweep island? Know the truth.
Lakshadweep island has come to the limelight after PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the location. After the derogatory statements about PM Modi by a few MPs of Maldives, boycott Maldives had started trending on social media. On the other hand, few users had also posted contents on the negative side of Lakshadweep.
Against this backdrop, a couple of images of dirty surroundings with few people taking bath in it are going viral on social media. Users are claiming that these images are the recent visuals of the Lakshadweep Island.
Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same image uploaded on the National Geographic's website in 2011. According to the information, this is an image of an Indian boatman sitting at the banks of the Ganges at the Sangam.
The same image was uploaded on Getty Images website. This picture was clicked on 22 April 2010 at the Sangam where the Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati river meets. This image was clicked to show the increase in the pollution level of the environment.
We also found the second image on the post uploaded on the Getty Images website. According to the information, this image is showing some people searching for golds and coins in the polluted Ganga river water after Kumbh Mela in 2013.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendoi found the claim to be false. Both the images in the post are not related to Lakshadweep Island. These are decade old images of the polluted Ganga river at the Sangam.
