The video shows a raid by Karnataka’s Anti-Corruption Bureau at the residence of an engineer with the Public Works Development in November 2021. Not related to Delhi. 

A video of some people removing cash from a pipe is going viral, with the claim that it shows a recent raid in Delhi at an engineer’s house working with the Public Works Department (PWD). The video shows people cutting the pipe outside a building. When a section of the pipe is separated, many notes start falling from it. Following this, a person stands under the pipe with a yellow bucket, and within no time, this bucket gets filled with bundles of notes.

The caption reads “Delhi………Central PWD engineer’s house raided, Rs 13 crore recovered by cutting 19 water pipes”.

Fact check

A reverse image search on Google led us to a NDTV news report dated 24 November 2021 about the incident. As per the report “Wads of currency notes were dug out of pipelines in a raid by Karnataka’s Anti-Corruption Bureau at the residence of an engineer with the Public Works Development (PWD).The residence of PWD joint engineer Shantha Gowda Biradar in Kalburgi district was raided as part of a statewide crackdown on government officials accused of corruption. During the raid at Mr Biradar’s residence, officials recovered ₹ 25 lakh in cash and a huge quantity of gold. On receiving information that the PWD joint engineer had hidden cash in the pipelines at his residence, officials got a plumber to extract the wads of currency notes from the pipes.

In further search we found the official YouTube channel of Hindustan Timesposted visuals from the raid which also shows people collecting money in a yellow bucket. The description reads “Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths raided the residence of a junior engineer of PWD in Karnataka. ACB sleuths seized cash worth Rs 13 lakh from one of the drainage pipes at his home. In a purported video, officials can be seen collecting bundles of cash from a drainage pipe. As per reports, a total of Rs 54 lakh in cash was found during the raid, including Rs 13 lakh from the pipe. The raid comes amid ongoing crackdown on government officials”.

The new Indian Express report of 24 November, 2021 states Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) launched simultaneous raids across Karnataka against 15 officials of various government departments. As many as 408 ACB sleuths are conducting search operations in the residences and offices of the targeted officials and houses of their relatives.

Taking account of all these evidences we can clearly understand that the incident is neither recent nor from Delhi.

Conclusion

Fact crescendo discovered that the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. An old video showing ACB officials raiding a PWD engineer’s house in Karnataka is being misrepresented as a recent incident from Delhi.
