The flood situation in Assam remains critical, as heavy rains and overflowing rivers continue to create havoc across the state. At least 61 people lost their lives, and more than seven lakh people have been affected by the floods. Against this backdrop, a video containing several clips went viral on social media, claiming it to be the recent flood situation in Assam.

However, upon investigation, we found that the claim was partly false. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
The viral video contains five different clips. We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search.
First Clip
A reverse image search of the screenshots from the first clip led us to the official Facebook page of India Today, where the viral clip was uploaded on July 22, 2026.
The caption of the post read, “A commercial structure in Beerwah’s main market area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district collapsed after flash floods struck the region. Shopkeepers desperately tried to save their merchandise as police evacuated the area moments before the building gave way and was swept away by the raging waters. The dramatic incident was captured on camera.”
The same video was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the New York Post on July 23, 2026. According to the report, the viral video shows a shopping complex collapsing in the Jammu & Kashmir floods.

This makes it clear that the viral clip is from Jammu & Kashmir.
However, the other four clips in the viral video are from the current floods in Assam.

Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is partly false. The first clip showing a building collapsing doesn’t show the current flood situation in Assam. The video shows a shopping complex in the Beerwah area of Budgam district in Jammu & Kashmir.
