We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to an X post by journalist Piyush Rai carrying the similar video. The caption states, “A man identified as Hemant Sharma, along with his friend Sandeep Sachan, attacked his sister-in-law with slippers in a domestic dispute which escalated in Kanpur, UP. Three-year-old daughter of the victim was also injured in the attack.”

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found several media reports regarding this incident. As per reports, “In a shocking incident, a family dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur turned violent after the couple and their young daughter were attacked on a public road while they were on their way to a police station to seek help.

The assault, carried out by the woman’s brother-in-law and his associate, was caught on camera and has since gone viral, triggering widespread outrage. Following the incident, officials confirmed that the two accused, identified as Hemant Sharma, the woman’s brother-in-law, and his friend Sandeep Sachan, have been arrested.

Looking for more details about the incident, we found a statement by the Kanpur Nagar police commissionerate on X. Addressing the issue, they wrote, “A video is going viral on social media in the Thana Gujaini area, in which a woman is seen riding a bike with her husband and young child. On the way, her relatives, including her brother-in-law Hemant Sharma and her friend Sandeep, stopped them and assaulted the woman, her husband, and the child.”

Taking account of all the evidence, it is clear that both the victims and the accused belong to the same community. There is no communal angle in this incident.
