We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to a Dhaka Tribune report published on 12 May 2026, carrying a screenshot of the viral video. As per the report, the incident took place in Comilla, Bangladesh. Md. Marjan Hossain Jihad, who has been arrested, is the son of Abdul Barek from the Chhotora area of the city. The building’s owner is Mohammad Ali, who resides in the Islampur area. A family of tenants was living on the ground floor of the building when Jihad was caught stealing. The report further states, “Police said that Jihad entered the house on the ground floor of a building by cutting the balcony grill to steal. Later, while trying to get out, his body got stuck in the grill. The incident created a commotion in the area, and people gathered”.

Moving forward, we found multiple reports from prominent Bangladesh-based news outlets, all confirming that the video originated in Comilla and had no connection to India.
