Recently, PM Modi had urged the citizens not to buy gold and reduce fuel and oil consumptions. Against this backdrop, a claim is going viral on social media that Air India had cancelled all its international flights due to shortages of fuel.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. Air India had refuted the claim and called it malicious and fabricated.

Fact Check-
A relevant keyword search on Google led us to Air India Newsroom’s official X handle. On 12 May 2026, Air India had clarified that it had not cancelled all international flights and the claim is malicious and baseless.
It had also requested the customers not to believe such claims and to rely on news from Air India’s official channel.
After this, we went to the Air India website and searched for an official press release regarding this claim. In the newsroom section, it was clearly clarified that Air India has announced temporary changes to some of its international flights from June to August 2026. This decision was taken because of ongoing airspace restrictions in some regions and very high jet fuel prices.
Air India has suspended a few international routes and reduced the number of flights on several others across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. The airline clarified that it has not stopped all international services and will still operate more than 1,200 international flights every month across five continents.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. Air India has not cancelled all international flights due to fuel shortages. It made a few adjustments. The airline had refuted the claim and called it malicious.
