A claim circulating widely on online platforms alleges that Air India has canceled all of its international flights until July due to fuel shortages. The claim is often framed as a major aviation disruption and presented as breaking news. However, after reviewing official statements, airline communications, and multiple credible media reports, we found this claim to be false.
Social Media Posts
The claim has been widely shared in viral posts, often phrased along the lines of: “Air India has canceled all international flights until July due to fuel shortages.” Examples include posts like this:

Fact Check
What Air India Actually Announced
Available reporting indicates that Air India has not canceled all international flights. Instead, the airline has reduced service on some international routes through June and July 2026.
According to India Today, citing an internal memo from CEO Campbell Wilson, Air India had already reduced some international flights in April and May and would “trim schedules in June and July” due to rising costs and operational constraints. Wilson further stated that a “massive rise in jet fuel prices, together with airspace closures and longer flying routes, have caused many international flights to become unprofitable,” leaving the airline with “no choice but to further trim schedules.”
NDTV similarly reported that Wilson linked further schedule reductions to higher jet fuel prices, airspace closures, and longer routings affecting operating economics. Additional coverage also describes a reduction in frequencies or specific routes, rather than a complete suspension of international operations.
Moreover, available reporting has not indicated that Air India is experiencing a fuel supply shortage. Instead, reports attribute the adjustments to a sharp increase in jet fuel prices, which has raised operating costs. Some industry estimates cited in coverage suggest fuel can account for roughly 55-60% of airline operating expenses under current conditions.
In addition, airspace restrictions linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia have required some flights to take longer routes, increasing fuel consumption and flight times.
No Official Full Suspension Announcement
Importantly, Air India has not issued any public statement announcing a full suspension of international flights. The information about reductions comes primarily from internal communication by CEO Campbell Wilson, later reported by reputable media outlets.
At the same time, Air India’s official newsroom continues to publish routine updates, such as fuel surcharge adjustments, without any indication of a total shutdown of international operations: This further supports that international services are continuing, though at reduced capacity.
Scale of the Reductions
As per The Times of India, the scale of disruption is also misrepresented in viral posts. Reports indicate that around 100 flights (domestic and international combined) may be affected, out of roughly 1,000+ daily operations. This corresponds to a partial reduction (roughly 10–12% in some periods), not a complete cancellation of all international flights. Operations to key global destinations such as Europe, North America, and Australia continue, albeit with reduced frequency or adjusted schedules.
Air India’s adjustments have also been linked to airspace closures and rerouting in parts of the Middle East. These detours can add flight time and operating costs. For example, report from VisaHQ notes that rerouted flights can take up to 60–90 minutes longer, which may increase fuel burn and crew costs. This may help explain why some long-haul routes to destinations such as North America and Europe are among the most affected, while still operating.
Conclusion
The claim that Air India has canceled all international flights until July due to fuel shortages is False. In reality, the airline is reducing some international flights through June and July due to rising fuel costs and airspace restrictions, while continuing to operate its global network at a lower frequency.
