A video showing a man wearing a garland made of shoes has gone viral on the social media platform X. The user who shared the video claims that the man was humiliated because he is a Hindu teacher in Bangladesh. The post further alleges that radical Islamists in Bangladesh carried out this atrocity solely because of the man’s religion. You can see the X post below.
However when we investigated the post, we found that the man seen in the video is not a Hindu but a Muslim man who was beaten and humiliated allegedly for insulting the Prophet of Islam. Here’s the truth.

We did a reverse image search with the screenshots of keyframes of the video, we found several posts on Facebook and Instagram posted on 19 June 2025 with the same video. A screenshot of one such video can be seen below.

According to news reports, the man seen in the video is a retired medical officer named Dr. Ahmed Ali. A rumor spread that Dr. Ali had insulted the Prophet of Islam at Baliakandi, Rajbari district. As the rumor circulated, a crowd began to gather and surrounded Dr. Ali. The agitated mob then assaulted him. After beating him, they placed a garland of shoes around his neck and was later tied to a tree. Upon receiving information, the local police arrived at the scene and rescued Dr. Ali. He was taken into custody, where he received treatment for his injuries.
