The viral video shows Congress workers celebrating after the Supreme Court granted a stay on Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in August 2023.

As the results of the 2024 general elections came out, the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Party is set to return for a third term by winning 293 Lok Sabha seats across the country. But the opposition India alliance, led by the Indian National Congress party, won 232 seats. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is headed to a gigantic victory in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli, currently has the highest winning margin in Uttar Pradesh.

Amidst this, a video showing Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi greeting the Congress workers celebrating at the party headquarters is going viral on social media as festivities at the headquarters prior to the announcement of Lok Sabha Poll results.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a tweet from the Indian National Congress shared on August.  2023. The same viral video uploaded there with a caption Proclaiming the “victory of truth over falsehood.

Upon further search, we found that the same video was also shared by the National President of Indian Youth Congress on August 2023. The post featured the widely circulated footage of Rahul Gandhi, and stated “Welcome Back, Leader”.

Using this hints we looked further and found some news reports regarding this incident.  As per reports, “The Supreme Court on 4 August, 2023, stayed the conviction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case for the ‘Modi’ surname remark he allegedly made during a political rally in 2019.The stay has paved the way for Mr. Gandhi to return to Parliament. He can participate in the ongoing monsoon session if the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

According to the Hindustan Times report, “Celebrations erupted at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarter in Delhi as the Supreme Court on stayed the conviction of Rahul Gandhi, in the 2019 ‘Modi surname case’.”
