Recently, a video allegedly featuring a Bihar police officer went viral on social media. The video shows the officer saying that he is resigning from his service in solidarity with the protesting students. He is seen saying that he was pressurised to file false cases against the protesting students.

However, upon investigation, we found that the claim was false. The viral video is a deepfake. Here’s the fact check.

At the beginning of our investigation, we noticed several discrepancies in the video. The lip movement and the blinking of the eyes seemed unnatural.
This hinted that the video could be a deepfake.
We analysed the video using several AI-detector tools. These tools suggested that the video is AI-generated.
Moving forward, we conducted a reverse image search of the screenshots from the viral video. This led us to a YouTube channel where we found a video that matched the viral video, although the audio was different.
In this video, the officer states that more than 400 Pakistani social media handles have been identified as attempting to spread misinformation. He further stated that staging a peaceful protest is everybody’s right, but people should stay away from rumours. Delhi police respect the right to protest.
We learnt that the police officer in the viral video is Delhi DCP, Sumit Jha.
We found the same video on the official X handle of Delhi Police. The tweet read, “480 Pakistan-based social media handles involved in coordinated misinformation campaigns were identified and blocked.
Delhi Police appeals to students and youth to be wary of such foreign accounts spreading rumours to mislead the situation.”
We found another tweet on the official X handle of the Delhi Police on July 26, 2026, stating that the viral video is AI-generated. The tweet read, “⚠️ FACT CHECK: FAKE VIDEO ⚠️The viral video claiming Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha resigned over student protests is completely fake and AI-generated. The authentic footage, in which the officer addresses the public regarding active misinformation campaigns, is available vide link https://x.com/i/status/2080328683366346883
Kindly refrain from forwarding or sharing the edited clip, as it is part of an orchestrated misinformation campaign.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a Bihar police officer resigning in solidarity with the student protesters. The video shows Delhi DCP Sumit Jha, and the video is AI-generated.
