Recently, a video went viral on social media, claiming to be the video of the Sri Ganganagar rape accused being beaten by the police.

However, upon investigation, we found that the claim was misleading. The viral video is old and unrelated to the Sri Ganganagar rape case. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to an Instagram handle where the viral video was uploaded on July 5, 2026. According to the caption, the video is from Gujarat and related to a double murder case in Limbayat.
The caption of the video read, “Surat: In a major breakthrough in the Limbayat double homicide case, the Gujarat Police have significantly intensified their investigation. Law enforcement officials escorted the primary suspects back to the actual location of the crime to execute a meticulous crime scene reconstruction. Every detail of the violent sequence of events was thoroughly verified alongside a formal spot evaluation (panchnama).
Preliminary intelligence indicates that the fatal confrontation stemmed from an escalating dispute over an alleged harassment or molestation incident. While the police had already demonstrated prompt efficiency by arresting the suspects within hours of the crime, this latest field reconstruction is part of a strategic effort to gather foolproof, scientific evidence. Investigators emphasised that constructing an airtight chargesheet remains their top priority to ensure the perpetrators face maximum legal consequences.”
Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a YouTube channel where a longer version of the viral video was uploaded on May 3, 2026.
According to the report, the video shows the accused in a double murder case in Limbayat, Gujarat.

We found a detailed report published in tv13 Gujarati containing images similar to the screenshots from the viral video.
The translation of the report read, “A minor girl was molested near the Kamru Nagar police post in Limbayat, Surat city, and her father and cousin were killed, and one of them was seriously injured. The incident sparked outrage among the residents. The mob vandalised the attackers’ vehicles, and the police, who rushed to the spot, detained the four accused and the molested minor. Meanwhile, the police reconstructed the incident by keeping the father and two sons, who were accused of the murder, together, and the accused were beaten with sticks in public.
The incident occurred on April 26 atapproximatelyd 11 pm. Rickshaw driver Irfan Ali Syed (aged 39), his brother-in-law Khaliq Razak Sheikh (aged 60) and his nephew Iqbal (aged 30) were attacked by Aman Amjad, Awesh Amjad, Amjad Maniar, Jebunnisha Maniar and a minor Chappu, who lived nearby. The three injured in the attack were taken to the New Civil Hospital. Irfan Ali died here. On April 30, Iqbal also died during treatment.
On being informed about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and arrested four adults involved in the murder and detained the minor. The minor had whistled and molested Irfan’s daughter in the afternoon. The accused beat up the minor and her mother after she scolded them. At night, the attackers became ruthless again and attacked them with deadly weapons like paddles, killing two of them…”
This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the Sri Ganganagar rape case.

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video doesn’t show the accused in the Sri Ganganagar rape case being beaten by police. This is an old video from Limbayat, Gujarat.
