The newly elected BJP government in West Bengal has moved to tighten enforcement of cattle slaughter regulations, issuing a modified public notice under the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act, 1950, reiterating that no cattle or buffalo can be slaughtered without mandatory official certification declaring the animal fit for slaughter.
Against this backdrop, a video of a protest is going viral on social media with the claim that Hindu cattle sellers are protesting against the BJP government following the beef boycott by Muslims in West Bengal.
The caption of the post states, “After Bengali-Muslims boycott beef and buying cattle, Hindu cattle sellers protest against the BJP Govt, alleging that it has hit their trade by resorting to cow vigilantism.”
Let’s check the truth.
Fact check:
We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to a similar video uploaded on a Facebook post by Sujit Banerjee on 2 April 2026. It predates the West Bengal Assembly election results and new cattle slaughter guidelines.
According to the caption of the post, this is footage of an incident in Tripura where workers of the Tipra Motha Party attacked a BJP MLA’s vehicle.

According to a report by Hornbill TV, BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb was attacked by Tipra Motha party workers on 1 April while he was campaigning in Kamalpur in Tripura’s Dhalai district.

During the campaign, clashes reportedly broke out between BJP and Tipra Motha supporters. Police intervened, after which Tipra Motha workers allegedly attacked police personnel, leaving ten police and security personnel injured in the attack. Several vehicles were also damaged, as per a report by India Today.
While reports indicate that the new cattle slaughter guidelines in West Bengal have affected cattle traders economically, the viral video has no link to the issue.
Conclusion
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be Misleading. This is an old video, and it shows a protest against a BJP leader in Tripura.
