Old video shared as an attack on Hindus in Bangladesh after the election

This is an old video and unrelated to the recent election results in Bangladesh.

In the general election held on 12 February 2026, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman, achieved a decisive victory, while the Jamaat-e-Islami faced a significant defeat, winning only 68 of the 199 seats it contested. This election marked the first parliamentary contest in Bangladesh since the riots. Amidst this, a video of a mob beating up a man is going viral on social media with the claim that Islamists in Bangladesh have started attacking Hindus after Jamaat-e-Islami was defeated in the elections.

But on investigation, we found that the video is not recent. Let’s check the truth.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a similar video posted by Bangladeshi news outlet, Dhaka Today. This video was uploaded on 31 December, 2025 and it predates the Bangladesh national elections. The Bangla captions of these posts claimed that a man had allegedly raised Jai Bangla slogans during the funeral procession of the former Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia. 

Further keyword searches led us to reports and videos published by Bangladeshi media outlets. According to them, the incident occurred on December 31, 2025, at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, where BNP supporters had gathered for Khaleda Zia’s funeral procession (Khaleda Zia passed away on 30 December, 2025, at the age of 80 after a long illness). During the funeral a man in a crowd chanted the slogan “Jai Bangla,” which led to him being pursued and assaulted by supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. A video from Bangla TV captures a person questioning from behind the camera about the situation, receiving a response that clarifies, “He was shouting Jai Bangla.”

Since the 2024 uprising in Bangladesh, the slogan “Jai Bangla” has become a focal point for mob aggression. This slogan is closely linked to the Awami League, which was established by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of Sheikh Hasina. Numerous incidents of violence have been reported, targeting individuals who have allegedly expressed this slogan.

This footage was recorded on 31 December, 2025. When BNP members attacked the man during Khaleda Zia’s funeral procession for allegedly chanting the pro-Awami League slogan “Jai Bangla.”‘.  It is unrelated to the recent election results.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This video depicts BNP members attacking a man for reportedly shouting the pro-Awami League slogan “Jai Bangla” during Khaleda Zia’s funeral procession in December 2025. It is unrelated to the recent election results.
