Recently a photo of three dancers went viral on social media claiming the dancer in the middle to be Sonia Gandhi. Sharing the photo, a user wrote, “Who is the middle Bar Dancer , italian Rajmata of congress party 💃”

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was false. The dancer in the photo is not Sonia Gandhi. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a Facebook page where the viral photo was uploaded on November 17, 2025. The caption of the photo read, “#OnThisDay 17 November 1967, a strike by more than 2000 brewery workers in Sydney led to what was to be known as the “Draught Beer Drought”. When, after 14 days of negotiations, the workers voted to return to work, a group of go-go dancers helped patrons to celebrate at the Rawson Hotel in Auburn.

We found the viral photo on the stock image website “Getty Images“. The description of the photo read, “Go Go dancing girls help break the beer drought on Rawson Hotel in Auburn on 21 November 1967. (Photo by Vic Sumner/Fairfax Media via Getty Images via Getty Images)”
We found three other photos of the same dancers clicked from a different angle.
A comparison between the dancer and an old photo of Sonia Gandhi is shown below. This makes it clear that the dancer in the photo is not Sonia Gandhi.

According to reports, almost three-quarters of Sydney hotels ran out of draught beer due to the brewery workers’ strike which started on November 8, 1967.
