An image showing a man with two women wearing hijab is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows BJP leader and Bihar’s Tourism Minister Krishna Kumar, who made his daughters wear hijab while visiting the United Arab Emirates. It is being claimed that this is the Bihar Tourism Minister, who made his daughters wear hijabs upon traveling to Dubai.

The caption of the post states, “Meet BJP leader Krishna Kumar, Bihar’s Tourism Minister. On a recent Dubai visit, he made his daughters wear hijab despite it not being mandatory in the UAE. Online sermons on Hindutva and nationalism, but actions say otherwise”.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with relevant keyword search on google and we found that the current minister for Tourism in Bihar is Arun Shankar Prasad. The images of Arun Shankar Prasad available online do not match the person in the viral image. 

A simple reverse image search results revealed us that the image shows actor-turned-politician and BJP Kerala leader Krishna Kumar with his daughters. We found Clarion India article dated 19 March, 2022 under the caption BJP Leader Krishnakumar’s Daughters Visit Abu Dhabi Mosque, Proudly Share Photos in Hijab.

The report states, “BJP leader and actor Krishna Kumar recently visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with his two daughters. Pictures of the BJP leader’s daughters smiling and looking proud in hijab have become the focus of attention of internet users.”

According to the Clarion report, these images were sourced from Krishna Kumar’s Facebook page. Based on the information, we searched the social media account of the Kerala BJP leader and discovered a post-dated 12 March, 2022, featuring memorable images from his visit to the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The caption in Malayalam states, “During my recent trip to Abu Dhabi, I visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with my daughters. We got the opportunity to see a very beautiful, very charming and quite spacious place of worship and I consider it a great blessing. I pray for the well-being of all”.

A report published by OneIndia on 11 March, 2022 also carried the viral image. The report stated that the images show the Kerala BJP leader Krishna Kumar with his daughters Diya and Ishani. Krishna Kumar’s daughter, Diya Krishna has uploaded the same images on her Instagram page also.

The official website of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre outlines the acceptable dress code for visitors. The guidelines state: “Women may choose any clothing, provided it is loose-fitting, reaches the ankles, and has sleeves that reach the wrists. Hair must also be fully covered, and transparent, tight-fitting, or revealing clothing should be avoided.”

Thus, we can understand that the man in the viral image is Kerala BJP leader Krishna Kumar, not Bihar’s Tourism Minister. His daughters, Diya Krishna and Ishani, dressed according to the dress code while visiting the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
