However, as we investigated, we learned that the video had been altered. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a longer version of the video uploaded on the YouTube channel The New Indian Express on 27 September 2025. According to the description of the video, “Ladakh Director General of Police S D Singh Jamwal on Saturday said activist Sonam Wangchuk is being probed for having links with Pakistan. The police chief accused Wangchuk of being the key person behind Wednesday’s violent protest
Four protestors were killed when police opened fire at youth who were demanding statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule. He also defended police firing at the protestors, calling it ‘self defence’ measures taken by the police force”
Nowhere in the video did the DGP say that Sonam Wangchuk was arrested without evidence.
Moving forward, we found a tweet on the X handle of PIB on 30 September, refuting the claim. According to the tweet, the video is a deepfake.
This makes it clear that the viral video has been altered.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the viral video has been altered. DGP Ladakh didn’t say that Sonam Wangchuk was arrested without any evidence. The video is a deepfake.
