BBC Hindi has clarified that the viral image is fake and the BBC’s logo has been misleadingly added to the viral image.

The Boycott Bollywood trend has now started engulfing actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Brahmastra. Amidst this, an image published by BBC News Hindi claiming to show a comment given by Alia Bhatt is widely circulating on social media. Users claim that Alia Bhatt has blamed the BJP for the boycott of the Bollywood gang on social media. Users further claim that BBC News Hindi has published this image.

The text written in the image mentions, “BJP is responsible behind the boycott gang because they want to shift the film industry to Noida. That is why the bhakts have been given the task of trolling Bollywood on social media. Modi is going to destroy the country- Alia Bhatt.”

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by visiting BBC Hindi’s social media handles and the website. However, we could not find the same image posted on any BBC Hindi handles. We could not find any relevant news reports stating that Alia Bhatt has blamed the BJP for the boycott trends viral on social media.

If Alia Bhatt had held the BJP responsible for the boycott trend, then surely this statement would have made the headlines. Nevertheless, we could not find any relevant or similar news.

Next, we looked through the image cards that had been posted by BBC News Hindi that portrayed statements given by several people. We found that every image card that contains the BBC News logo in Hindi is in red and white. However, the viral image shows the logo in black and white.

We also found the font of the text to be very different from the one seen in the viral image.

We also found that BBC News Hindi has posted a clarification on their Twitter and Facebook handles. They have called out the viral image as being fake and mentioned that BBC News Hindi has not published such an image. They have also mentioned that BBC Hindi’s logo has been misleadingly added to the viral image. 

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo discovered that the viral image is Fake. BBC News Hindi has not published any image stating that Alia Bhatt has held the BJP responsible for the boycott trends on social media. The viral image is edited and fake. BBC Hindi themselves have called out the image as fake.
