However, as we investigated, we learned that the claim was false. The viral video is scripted and unrelated to the current floods in Punjab. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search and a relevant keyword search. This led us to an X handle where a video and an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video were uploaded on 5 September 2025.
According to the tweet, the video was originally uploaded by a content creator, Aarti Gangwar, from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. The woman shown in the video is Aarti Gangwar from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.
Taking the clue, we searched for the social media profiles of Aarti Gangwar. We found several similar videos on the Facebook profile of Aarti Gangwar. The woman in these videos looked similar to the one in the video.
We found the Instagram handle of Aarti Gangwar where, in a similar video, she mentioned that the video has been made for entertainment purposes only.
We found an Instagram Story where Aarti Gangwar clarified that the viral video was done by her for entertainment purposes only. People misunderstood and started sharing it linking to the current flood situation in Punjab.

This makes it clear that the viral video has no link to the current flood situation in Punjab.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a child dragging his mother’s dead body through the floodwater in Punjab. The viral video was created by a content creator from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, Aarti Gangwar, for entertainment purposes only.
