Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, have not officially confirmed plans to release a Tesla-branded smartphone. Tesla, which is known for its electric cars, energy products etc has not announced that it is entering the smartphone market.
We found out that the rumour about the launch of Tesla phone dated back long back after a Youtuber uploaded a video on his channel. The video from 2021 has a description saying, “My idea of a Tesla Smartphone.” A disclaimer in the end of the video reads, “This video is a homage to Tesla and its products. It’s not related, in any way with Tesla and all the companies mentioned in the video.”
Moreover, Musk has mentioned in the past that he has no interest in developing a phone product, as stated in his X post.
During a Q&A session in Philadelphia on 18 October, Elon Musk said, “Man, I sure hope we don’t have to make a phone. That’s a lot of work. The idea of making a phone makes me want to die. But if we have to make a phone, we will, but we will aspire not to make a phone.”
He further said, “You know, I do think that the various companies, Apple and Google, Android and whatnot, they need to make sure they don’t have a heavy hand in the app store, or they will create a forcing function for there to be a competitor. But man, I dread the idea of making a phone. But if that turns out to be necessary, we’ll do it, but hopefully it is not necessary.”
