The video is from the Syrian city of Raqqa, where a girl was beaten up by her family members on suspicion of being pregnant.

A video of people brutally beating a girl with sticks is going viral on social media. In the video, a man can be seen dragging the girl by her hair and hitting her with a stick. After this, some more people come there and they also join in the fight and the girl is crying in agony and the people present there are silently watching this horrific scene.

The users who share the video claims that the video is that this girl is from Kerala. She eloped and married a Muslim boy. The boy usurped all her property and sent her to Afghanistan, where the girl is physically abused every day and is brutally beaten up if she refuses.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with the help of keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to an Arabic news report published about this video. The report states that the incident is from Syria in February 2024.

Using this hint, we searched more and found several reports of this incident. As per reports, this incident is from Tal al-Saman area of ​​​​Raqqa, where the family members of a girl beat her in public. Actually, the girl had a tumor in her stomach, for which she went to a doctor for treatment. But the doctor did a wrong diagnosis and told her family that she was pregnant.

Due to the suspicion of her being pregnant, her three brothers and nephew beat her up in public. During this time, she screamed many times that she was not pregnant, but the family members did not listen to her. 

Due to the assault, Lina suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Raqqa. According to some reports, Lina’s sister Aisha Akla al-Ahmad was also beaten up by the family members. Taking action in the case, the police arrested three people, while one accused was absconding. 

Moving forward, we have come across a Free Press Journal report published on this incident on 18 April 2024. In this report too, citing local news, it has been described as an attack in the name of ‘honor’ in Syria’s Raqqa province.
