The theatrical opening ceremony at the 2024 Paris Olympics had sparked a controversy. In one of the scenes, drag queens and dancers sat on a long table which some people related to Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ which shows Jesus Christ and his 12 Apostles.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The viral video is of a Catholic festival called Feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
What’s the claim?
Sharing the video, a social media user wrote “In France, frightened Christians gathered to pray against the demonic anti-Jesus event at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic 2024. Europe is in the grip of satan.”
Fact Check-
A Reverse Image Search on Google led us to the same video tweeted by a user on 5 July 2023. The user wrote that the Catholics gathered and sang Ave Maria at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. From this it is clear that this video is not related to the Paris Olympics 2024.
Further, we found the same video tweeted by the Sanctuary of Our Lady Lourdes Twitter account on 15 August 2022. It was written, “Beautiful and happy Feast of the Assumption to all. In the union of prayer with all the Catholics of the world. May the Virgin Mary shine in your hearts”
The same video was uploaded on the Sanctuary of Our Lady Lourdes’ official Facebook account.
In another Facebook account it was mentioned that Catholics were singing Ave Maria at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
From the above facts, it is clear that the viral video has no connection with the recent incidents. This is an old video of a festival in France called the Feast of Assumption.
What is the Feast of Assumption?
According to the Catholic belief system, Mother Mary’s body was assumed into heaven to be reunited with her soul instead of going through the natural process of physical decay upon death. Catholics celebrate this day on 15 August every year, particularly in parts of Europe and South America.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The viral video has no connection with recent incidents or the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is an old video of a Catholic festival called Feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
