The viral video shows a Louis Vuitton store was vandalized in Portland in United States, following the protests of George Floyd's death in 2020.

Riots started in Nanterre, a suburb of France's Paris, after the police shot a 17-year-old boy named Nahel during a traffic stop. As many as 40,000 police personnel and riot officers have been deployed across Paris to quell the protests, for over 700 protestors have been arrested.Things appear to be calming down in France, but social media is still flooded with videos claiming to depict the rioting.

The video in circulation shows a group of people ransacking a Louis Vuitton store. Storming into the store and looting it with the caption “Vandals loot a Louis Vuitton store in Paris, France.

Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, which led us to the expanded version of the viral video on A Closer Look's YouTube channel, which was uploaded on 31May, 2020. According to the video’s description “Following the murder of George Floyd, riots have spread across America and stores of all types and sizes are being looted. Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Moncler, Walmart and Apple, are just a few of the stores that have been targeted so far. Protests originally began on Tuesday after George Floyd was brutally killed on camera, but since then the protests have spiralled into riots, brawling and looting.

We also came across another video posted on 30 May 2020 with the title, “Portland Riots 2020 - Louis Vuitton Store Looted.”

US-based freelance journalist Sergio Olmos had also shared an extended version of the video on Twitter on 30 May, 2020with the caption, “Portland Lou V looted.”

George Floyd, an African-American man who was killed by a police officer on 25 May, 2020. Protests in Portland broke out on May 29, 2020, following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Local media outlets widely reported the protests and subsequent storming of stores in Portland. Protests over Floyd’s killing soon spread to other cities in the U.S. and became part of the national discourse.

We checked the location of the Louis Vuitton store on Google Maps and found that it is located inside a shopping mall named Pioneer Place in Portland, Oregon. The entrance of the store is the same as seen in the viral video. This confirms the location of the store to be Portland and not France.

Taking account of all these evidences we can clearly understand that the video was from a Louis Vuitton store in Portland, United States. Reportedly, during protests following the death of George Floyd, a group of protesters ransacked the store.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be False.
