Did Aditya Thackeray Call Uddhav Thackeray A Corrupt Man? Edited Screenshot Went Viral

Altered Politics

Fake and manipulated screenshots of TV news are one of the most popular forms of spreading misinformation. With the help of easily available digital tools, these screenshots can be easily altered and shared widely, leading to false narratives.

One recent example of it is a fake chyron of Zee-24 Taas, a Marathi news channel. It has been used to claim MLA Aditya Thackeray called his father and former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray a “Corrupt Man.”

Fact Crescendo received the viral image on our WhatsApp Tipline (9049053770) with fact-check requests.

We found that it is a digitally altered screenshot shared with a false claim.

Social media users have shared a screenshot of a Zee-24 Taas news clip that includes a chyron quoting Aditya Thackeray as saying: “माजी सीए म्हणजे करप्ट माणूस” (Former CM means Corrupt Man).

It has been shared claiming Aditya Thackeray called his father Uddhav Thackeray a ‘corrupt man.’

The caption in the post reads: “Aditya, one should not speak so much truth about one’s father.”

A keyword search led us to various news reports about Aditya Thackeray’s recent public rally in Mumbai.

During the address, he said that CM now stands for “Corrupt Man”, reports TOI. He was criticizing current CM Eknath Shinde and called it a government of contractors.

We also found an original screenshot of the news clip and report published on Zee News Marathi.

Original – Zee News Marathi

In it evident in the original clip that Aditya Thackeray only said “सीएम म्हणजे करप्ट माणूस” (CM means Corrupt Man).

The chyron did not say “माजी सीएम” (Former CM).

In the speech, Aditya Thackeray launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He said the acronym CM currently stands for a “corrupt man.”

You can watch his speech here.

Hence, Aditya Thackeray did not call his father Uddhav Thackeray a corrupt man. An edited and digitally altered screenshot of a Zee-24 Taas news clip has been shared with a false claim.
