Old video of furniture store fire shared as Hezbollah attack on Haifa
A video showing huge fire in the middle of a seemingly populated area, with vehicles travelling on the roads nearby and several well-lit buildings is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows fire in Haifa following Hezbollah's recent missile attack on Israel.
Let’s check the truth
Fact Check-
We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a similar video in a post shared on14 August, 2024. It stated that the video was from Haifa. When we looked through the comments, we discovered that this video depicts a major fire that broke out at a furniture shop in Haifa on 13 August this year.
Moving forward, we found news reports from August 2024 citing that a furniture store located on Maklef Street in Haifa caught fire on August 13. Several media outlets carried this video at the time.
As per the reports, it took firefighters hours to douse the flames. The commander of the brigade, Rabbi Reshef Barak Silem, told media outlets that the roof of the building was on the verge of collapsing because of the damage caused by the fire. We could not find any reports or posts mentioning the cause of the fire. If it had been a foreign attack, the reason would have been revealed.
Thus, taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that a video of a fire in furniture shop falsely shared linking to Israel-Lebanon conflict.
Conclusion-
Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This viral video shows a fire that broke out in a furniture store in Haifa a month ago. It is unrelated to recent Hezbollah attack on Israel.
