On September 10 in Philadelphia, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump took part in their first presidential debate. They agreed on rules, including no pre written notes, no props, and no communication with staff during breaks. However, viral social media posts accused Harris of cheating, alleging that she wore earrings equipped with earphones to receive prompts during the debate. These claims suggested her responses were fed to her through the devices. The viral posts on social media claims that Kamala Harris was actually wearing Nova H1 Audio Earrings to be able to cheat for prompts during her debate with Donald Trump.

The caption of the post states, "USTED! SHE’S WEARING EARPHONE EARRINGS. NOVA H1 Audio Earrings - the first and only wireless earphones embedded in a pair of pearl earrings on a gold- or silver-plated clip. LOOK AT HER EARRINGS! Busted!"

Fact Check-

We started our investigations by simple running a keyword search on Google and Youtube to identify the earrings that Kamala Harris was wearing during the debate on September 10. During the debate, Kamala Harris wore distinctive earrings featuring large pearls with two gold stalks that elegantly curved behind her earlobes in a "J" shape.

A journalist-run website, known for tracking the vice president's fashion choices, identified these earrings as a discontinued design from Tiffany & Co. known as the south sea pearl earrings. The site, "What Kamala Wore," highlights that the earrings closely resemble pieces from Tiffany & Co.'s HardWear collection, known for its bold and modern designs. The website mentioned that this piece is made of 18K gold and feature 9 – 10mm South Sea Pearls.

This suggests that while the specific style Harris wore may no longer be available, it shares a strong connection to the iconic HardWear line. You can see a similar earring available in silver with the pearl on Tiffany & Co.'s website.

We also found that Kamala Harris was previously photographed wearing the same earrings in different events. According to Getty Images, the caption of the post states, "Vice President Kamala Harris attends an NCAA championship teams celebration on the South Lawn of the White House on July 22, 2024 in Washington, DC. U.S. President Joe Biden abandoned his campaign for a second term after weeks of pressure from fellow Democrats to withdraw and just months ahead of the November election, throwing his support behind Harris."

Additionally, the electronic earrings depicted in the viral social media posts do not match the earrings worn by Kamala Harris, as seen in high-resolution photos from the debate available on Getty Images. The earrings seen on Harris during the debate have a distinct two-stalk design, with a much larger, more pronounced curve behind the earlobe.

Next, we also searched about the Nova H1 Audio Earrings by German company Icebach Sound Solutions, they are designed with embedded wireless transmitters. These audio-enabled earrings feature a single stalk and have a hinge with a much smaller radius that wraps around the earlobe, unlike the earrings Kamala Harris wore. The Nova H1 Audio Earrings also have a minimalistic and sleek appearance, which differs from the bold, statement style of Kamala Harris’s pearl and gold earrings. This discrepancy between the styles further discredits the viral claim. Upon careful observation we also found that the viral image showing the Nova H1 earrings is also different from the original Nova H1 Audio earrings.

The Nova H1 Audio Earrings were introduced last year through a Kickstarter campaign. These earrings incorporate real pearls that conceal wireless speakers, designed to transmit audio directly up and into the wearer’s ears. It’s unclear whether the Nova H1 Audio Earrings were ever delivered to buyers. Additionally, they are not available for purchase on the company’s website. In response to the increased attention, Icebach updated its website to promote a "Special Edition for Presidential Debates – soon available for everyone." The company addressed the buzz by stating, "Following the presidential debate we have been contacted by numerous TV shows for interviews. After thorough discussions we have decided that we will grant one live interview to clarify the rumours and myths surrounding our wonderful products. Our chosen interviewer is Jimmy Fallon, a trusted Bavarian in heart. Please refrain from any interview requests if you are not Jimmy Fallon. Thank you! The NOVA H1 Audio Earrings are the first wireless earphones embedded in earrings. Made from quality freshwater pearls, each pair of NOVA H1 Audio Earrings is truly unique and exquisite."

Below you can see a comparison between the Tiffany & Co. earrings worn by Kamala Harris and the original Nova H1 Audio Earrings which are drastically different from each other.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the viral claims on social media to be False and baseless. Social media posts falsely alleged that Vice President Kamala Harris wore earrings with built-in audio devices to gain an unfair advantage during her debate with former President Donald Trump. The earring worn by Kamala Harris is not the Nova H1 Audio Earrings.
