Was the objectionable poster that declares Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘the dracula of kashmir’ put up in Aligarh Muslim University?

0

On August 17th 2019, a user from facebook named Monu Bhardwaj(content unavailable) shared a post. This picture looks like some performance happening somewhere. An extremely objectionable banner is being displayed in this demonstration, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is shown as a dracula, who is eating human flesh. On the poster it is written- ‘Modi the Dracula of kashmir’.

The description of this post says:

We are ashamed at such students and University that gives such education to children. The banner of the Prime Minister of our country, Shri Narendra Modi, has been put up in the Aligarh Muslim University,  which is very shameful. How fitting it is to show the Prime Minister as a dracula in an education temple? Do the children of Aligarh Muslim University, want this freedom? No matter how much we condemn this, it is less. We immediately demand stern action against those who spread this anarchy.

It has been claimed by this post that this banner, which accuses Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being a Dracula of Kashmir, is in Aligarh Muslim University. The removal of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir is linked to this banner.  Every second day Aligarh Muslim University is being linked to such disputes. Let us find out the truth about the claim in this video.

See main post here –‘Monu Bhardwaj’| ARCHIVE POST

First we conducted a reverse image search of this picture. But this search results did not give us any valid evidence. After this, we used the keywords mentioned on the poster ‘Modi the dracula of Kashmir’ and searched on Facebook. We found a second picture related to this banner. You can see the Facebook post below:

We used the same keywords and searched on Google. As a result, we found a twitter link. Anila Qazi, a verified user, had tweeted on 16th August 2019. The tweet contains the same picture that has been used in Facebook post. You can see this tweet below.

Both, the post and the tweet, have the same description, Modi the Dracula of Kashmir, #15AugustBlackDay, Free Kashmir, Today’s Black Day protest in London outside Indian high Commission. In both the places, it has been claimed that this picture is from the protest held on 15th August 2019 in front of Indian High Commission in London.

Based on this claim, we conducted a Google search using the keywords ‘Black Day protest in London outside the Indian High Commission’. As a result, we found a video on YouTube uploaded by England’s renowned news agency ‘The Sun’. This video has 1 hour and 37 minutes of live coverage of the protest held in front of the Indian High Commission in London on 15th August 2019. In this video, you can see the banner appearing in the shared picture in the above mentioned post starting from 45 minutes 10 seconds till 46 minutes 14 seconds.

Further, we searched using the keywords ‘Modi shown as dracula banner in AMU’. As a result, we found news broadcasted by Patrika on 20th August 2019. It has been said in the news that  after such claims floated on social media about the objectional banner of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being in Aligarh Muslim University, the Aligarh police investigated the matter and clarified that no such banner has been put up in the University. Also, the Aligarh Police have given an explanation through social media.

Apart from this, we also came across news circulated on the ‘Times of India’ website on 21st August 2019. It is mentioned in this news that an FIR has been filed against the person who claimed that the objectional banner of Prime Minister Modi has been put up in AMU.

It is clear after the research that this poster declaring Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Dracula of Kashmir is not in Aligarh Muslim University. In reality this banner was a part of a recent protest organized outside the Indian High Commission in London on 15th August 2019.

Results of investigation: From this research it is clear that the picture shared in the above post claiming that the banner describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Dracula of Kashmir is from Aligarh Muslim University, is absolutely false. This banner was a part of a recent protest organized outside the Indian High Commission in London on 15th August 2019.

This is an old video of 2007 Gumda Bridge in Odisha. It is being circulated on social media that this video is about the demolition of the Takli Bridge, located on Bijapur-Solapur Highway.

0

On 13th August 2019 a Facebook user Setiawan posted a video on Facebook. In this video, a bridge can be seen collapsing due to the flow of the river. In the caption of this post it is mentioned “Bijapur Solapur Takali Bridge collapsed, Maharashtra, India 13th August 2019″.

Currently, due to heavy rains in many places in Maharashtra, many types of claims are being made on social media regarding floods. Due to the current state of Maharashtra, one such claim is being made that this video is about the collapsing of the Takli Bridge, located on Bijapur-Solapur Highway.

FacebookPost|ArchivedLink

First we contacted Sushila Khayamghode the Head of the Takali village. After seeing the video he said that this video is not from Takali village. He added, “When this video went viral, I went to the Solapur-Vijapur highway and ensured that Takali Bridge was safe. Please do not believe in rumors.” Apart from this, we inquired from the local journalists. They confirmed that this is fake news and rumors are being spread. After this, we took a screenshot of the above video with the help of InVidTool and looked for it in Google Reverse Image Search. We found many old videos uploaded on YouTube

Video 1:  13th November 2010:  hiprasanna5386

Video 2: 13th July 2011:  mithleshgiet

Video 3: 5th January 2012 : lakojishiba

After that, we analyzed the video with our language expert. We came to know that the language that is being heard in the video is Odia. Then we searched for news related to such incident in Odisha on Google using the keywords “Gumuda bridge collapse in Odisha 2007’’. As a result, we got similar news stories related to collapse of a bridge on the news website. In this video it is mentioned the collapse of the Gumda bridge and these reports also mentions the collapse of the Gumda bridge.

We contacted Pramod kumar Behera, Collector of Raigarh district, Odisha. After seeing this video he said, “this is an old incident and I will confirm and tell you what place it is in Odisha and when this incident had taken place. As soon as we get confirmed news about the video, we will update the post for our readers. Also, when we sent this video to the people of Gumda village and spoke to them about this incident, they also agreed that this bridge was broken several years ago.

This amendment makes it clear that the video shared in this post is available on social media since 2010 and it is not related to the present situation in Maharashtra. This video is being shared with the purpose of misleading people with wrong information. This is a strong possibility that this video is of floods in Odisha way back in August 2007. But this video has no relation with the recent circumstances in Maharashtra

Conclusion: The claim made in the above mentioned post that this video shows the collapsing of Takali Bridge on Vijapur-Solapur highway is false.

The caption of the video was “While millions of people in Kashmir are under military siege, Arnab Goswami says, “As a proud Indian, I am ready for the damage, kill them. Kill them in thousands”. After closely analysing the video, we discovered that this news debate video clip is of 28 second from the program “Sunday Show” and it is with reference to the debate Kashmir issue. At 7 seconds, the sound of the video shortens and rises again in 10 seconds. Also, Goswami’s comments end abruptly and seem incomplete in the debate. Looking at this video, it appears that this video has been edited.

We started investigating our debate using these keywords on Google Will Pro-Azadi Gang Unite Against Pakistan? We also used #KashmirDebate” keywords as you can see in the caption of the video. As a result of the search we found a video broadcasted by Republic TV on 28th February 2019. In its heading it was mentioned “Will Pro-Azadi Gang Unite Against Pakistan? Exclusive Sunday debate with Arnab Goswami”

English Statement:“I am saying that we now need to have a tough military option and I’m saying as a proud Indian, I am prepared for collateral damage to take on terrorists within Jammu and Kashmir and their supporters because now operation elimination will start and we will have to eliminate all these people.”

Further in the debate, Arnab Goswami suggests that the only solution for Kashmir is that force and strong military action should be used. He also said that the only solution to the problem of the stone pelters is to collect them, pull their hair and beat them.

Currently due to this dispute, Republic TV issued a tweet from its official twitter handle and informed Twitter India about @withkashmir and said that this twitter account if operated by the ISI in Pakistan and it is spreading fake news against Republic TV. Republic channel launched a hastag #twittermustclarify after which Twitter account #withkashmir was suspended

Next, we spoke to Vikas Vaibhav, Ex SSP of this area. He is now DIG East Range- Bhagalpur. This is what he had to say:

“The incident shown in this video happened on 27th August 2015 in Gardanibagh, Patna. The heading of this video is: My Kashmir: we have a right for our freedom.” This made it clear to us that the aforementioned video does not show any recent protests because it is available online since last 6 months; as it was uploaded in December 2018

This video was also broadcasted on 15th December 2018 by Markhor TV and in the title of the video it was mentioned “Kashmiri women shouting freedom slogans”

It should be clear that section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the valley as a caution.
