A Video Of Family Dispute In Bangladesh Going Viral With Misleading Communal Claim.

Recently, a video was forwarded to our 24X7 Factline number 9049053770, which showed a woman being abducted by a few men. It's being claimed that the video is from Bangladesh and the woman is a Hindu who was dragged by the Muslim miscreants. Forwarding the video, the user wrote, "Please let me know the details of this video. I learned that the women being dragged by some miscreants is a Hindu of Bangladesh and is dragged by some Muslim miscreants and is being raped. What is the real fact I would like to know".

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The video has no communal aspect. Here's the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found a Facebook post with a caption in Bengali, stating that three men who tried to kidnap the daughter of Dulal Chandra Pal from Moishai village under Senbagh Police Station in Noakhali were apprehended by the locals and the army while the others escaped.

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search and found news reports on the incident. According to reports, a man named Prasenjit, with a gang of 17-18 people, tried to abduct his divorced wife from his Father-in-law Dulal Chandra Pal's house in two cars. The family members and the neighbours together, tried to prevent them, and with the help of the army, they rescued the woman. Three men were arrested while others escaped.

Subarna Rani Pal, daughter of Dr Dulal Chandra Pal of Sonabag, was married to Prasenjit of South Vijaypur in Comilla Sadar four years ago. But Prasenjit physically and mentally abused Subarna after the marriage demanding a dowry. They initially demanded Rs 10 lakh and even after getting Rs 3 lakh, the torture continued. The couple legally separated two years later and Prasenjit was ordered to pay Rs 180,000 to Subarna. Subarna went to court one and a half months ago after Prasenjit refused to pay the money. Prasenjit's family members, with the help of several others, attempted to kidnap Subarna from the court. The woman managed to escape by calling the National Emergency Service number 999. But on Thursday, August 8, 2024, Prasenjit arrived at the house of Dulal Chandra Pal with a group of 17-18 men in two cars and tried to abduct his divorced wife Subarna from the house and was arrested. The incident was captured on a mobile camera and went viral on social media.

From this information, we learned that the incident was a family conflict. The situation arose due to a family dispute between the husband and wife.

Further, we found a Facebook video that was recorded live on 8 August 2024. There, the three men, including Prasenjit, could be seen held by the people of the village. It was mentioned in the video that they were Hindus.

We came across another Facebook video which clarified that the incident had no communal aspect. It was a family dispute and both the families were Hindus.

From this, it's clear that the viral video has no communal aspect.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The video shows a situation arising due to a conflict between a divorced couple. Both the husband and wife are Hindu. The incident has no communal aspect.
