In late July, more than 60,000 migrants, mostly Moroccans, entered the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta by swimming around breakwaters or rushing border gates. Against this backdrop, a video showing a young man filming himself while swimming has gone viral on social media. The footage shows the man holding the selfie stick out in front of him, he recorded his swim through the water. The users who share the video claim that it shows a Moroccan migrant filming himself with a selfie stick while swimming to Spain’s Ceuta enclave amid the ongoing migration crisis.

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to an X post stating that the person was a Moroccan swimmer who was swimming in his hometown of El Jadida. The tweet states, “This Moroccan swimmer was NOT going to sebta but was swimming in his home town ( El Jadida ) ! He made a video to explain this and below you will find his social media.” The user also shared a screenshot of the swimmer’s – Yassine Lgochi – Instagram account.
Moving forward, we found the same video uploaded on his Instagram account on 29 July, the day before thousands of migrants entered Ceuta. He has posted multiple swimming videos filmed at the same location.
He also shared a video compilation on Facebook on 4 July, 2026, which included the segment featured in the viral video.
So, based on all this evidence, we can understand that this video was filmed in Morocco. This footage of man at sea with selfie stick was falsely linked to Spain’s migrant crisis.
Conclusion
