This video shows a CCTV footage from an electronics store in Myanmar when the earthquake hit the country in March 2025

A massive earthquake of 7.6 magnitude struck Japan on Monday 8 December 2025, while on Tuesday, tremors of magnitude 6.7 were felt in the country’s Honchō town. First quake has so far injured more than 50 people, with the figures continuing to rise, as authorities sound the possibility of an even bigger tremor in the coming days.

Amid this, a video which shows, a clerk ducking under a counter as shelves crash on top of her, has been going viral on social media. Sharing the video, users claimed that the footage is from the recent earthquake in Japan.

Fact Check-

We conducted a reverse image search on Google with the key frames of the viral video and the results led us to same video uploaded on YouTube by Daily Mail News on 31 March 2024 under the caption, “Terrifying moment Myanmar earthquake hits shop, sending shelves flying”. The description part states that, “CCTV footage from an electronics store in Myanmar captures the moment the 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck, as shelves fall while the entire building shakes”.

This indicates that the video is old and not related to the recent earthquake in Japan.

Moving forward, we found the same video uploaded on Twitter by Nexta Tv on 30 March 2025. The caption states, “This girl survived the earthquake at her workplace”. The post also mentions about the Myanmar earthquake of March 2025.

Another report states, A counter slid across the floor, while a terrified store clerk desperately crouched for cover as boxes fell onto her when the 7.7 magnitude tremor rattled the city of Mandalay.

On 28 March 2025 a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Sagaing Region of Myanmar, with an epicenter close to Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city. It was the most powerful earthquake to strike Myanmar since 1912 reportedly killing more than 2,000 people and injuring over 4,000. The earthquake caused extensive damage in Myanmar and significant damage in neighbouring Thailand. 

Based on these evidences we can understand that an old CCTV footage from Myanmar earthquake goes viral linking to recent earthquake in Japan.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video shows a CCTV footage from an electronics store in Myanmar when the earthquake hit the country in March 2025. Not related to the recent earthquake in Japan.
