This video shows an eight-year-old who died from a cardiac arrest at a school in Ahmedabad in January 2025

In Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a tragedy struck recently when a 13-year-old girl of Class 6 reportedly died after being forced by a teacher to complete 100 sit-ups as punishment for being late in class. Authorities have filed a case, the teacher, Mamta Yadav, was arrested and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The school has been the subject of protests from local residents and political workers.

Against this backdrop, a video now going viral shows a schoolgirl collapsing onto a bench in a school corridor. The users who share the video claims that this girl collapsed and died after being punished with 100 sit-ups for arriving late to school.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by conducting a keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us a news report featuring the screenshot of the video published on 10 January 2025. According to the report, the girl named Gargi Ranpara, died after collapsing at Zebar School for Children in Thaltej, Ahmedabad, on 10 January. Gargi, a third-grader, became unwell shortly after arriving and slumped on a bench in the school corridor. Teachers quickly rushed her to Asarwa Civil Hospital. The report further adds, “Doctors there told us that Gargi had suffered a cardiac arrest. They tried to revive her and also kept her on a ventilator support, but she could not survive,” the school principal said.

This indicates that the viral video is old and this incident actually happened in a school in Ahmedabad in January 2025. 

Moving forward, we came across a report from Republic World , which also provided the above information and uploaded the same video, which you can see below. This makes it evident that the video is not recent and has no link to the death of the 13-year-old schoolgirl from Maharashtra.

Taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that this video does not show the Maharashtra student who died after a 100-sit-up punishment. It shows an eight-year-old who suffered a cardiac arrest and died in Ahmedabad few months back.

Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video shows an incident that happened in a school in Ahmedabad in January 2025. It is now being falsely shared linking to a recent incident from a school in Palghar, Maharashtra.
