Amid ongoing tensions in Manipur, a video showing a massive fire incident is going viral on social media. Users who share the post claim that it shows Manipur freedom fighters set an Assam Rifles camp on fire on the outskirts of the state. The caption of the post states, “Manipur freedom fighters attacked a newly established Assam Rifles camp in the occupied Manipur outskirts area.”
Let’s check the truth.
Fact check:
We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google with the keyframes from the viral video, and the results led us to a Facebook post shared by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on 2 May, 2026. The video shows a forest fire near the Indus riverfront in Choglamsar, Leh, which was quickly brought under control by ITBP personnel from Leh-based units.

News agency ANI had also reported the massive fire incident in Leh on 2 May 2026.
Apart from this, the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Government of India has also refuted the viral claim. PIB tweeted on 27 May 2026 that the viral claim is false and confirmed that the footage was being misleadingly shared with a false Manipur-related narrative. The tweet states the viral video is old and originally shows a forest fire reported near the Indus riverfront in Choglamsar, Leh, on May 2, 2026.
Based on this evidence, we can understand that the viral video is unrelated to Manipur and actually shows a forest fire in Leh in May 2026.
Conclusion
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be Misleading. This video is from a forest fire incident in Leh, reported in May 2026, and it is not related to Manipur.
