However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was misleading. The viral video is old. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a video on a YouTube channel on January 7, 2024, where we found the viral clip.

According to the description, the video is from the Noto Peninsula after the Japan earthquake on January 1, 2024.
Moving forward, we found a report published on a website on January 9, 2024, that contained the viral video.

The report read, “The moment a tsunami crashing into a residential neighborhood following the New Year’s Day earthquake on Japan’s Noto Peninsula was captured by a man’s driving recorder just as he was making his escape to higher ground…”
Another report on a Japanese media can be seen here.
This makes it clear that the viral video is old.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video of the surging tsunami is not from the recent Japan Earthquake. The video is from January 2024.
