However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the recent conflict between Iran and the US. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published in Sky News on February 11, 2020, where the viral video was uploaded.

According to the report, “Syrian rebels shot down a military helicopter in Idlib on February 11, 2020, Tuesday where troops are advancing, killing the two crew members on board.”

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to the YouTube channel of The Telegraph where the viral video was uploaded on February 11, 2020.

The description of the video read, “Videos circulating on social media on Tuesday appeared to show a Syrian air force helicopter being downed by rebels in the area of Nayrab in eastern Idlib, using ground-to-air missiles thought to have been supplied by Turkey in recent days.

Turkey, which had been supporting and arming the opposition, sent in its own troops with tanks and heavy weaponry over the weekend in response to Syrian regime shelling of its observation points.”

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the recent conflicts between the US and Iran.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a US Black Hawk helicopter being attacked by Iran recently. This is an old video from February 2020 that shows a Syrian Military helicopter being shot down by the Syrian rebels.
