Clipped Video Of Mamata Banerjee On Temple Demolition Is Going Viral.

Misleading Political

A video of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee allegedly saying that the BJP creates drama if a Shiv mandir is demolished, went viral on social media. Sharing the video, a user wrote, “Mamata Banerjee calling outrage over a Shiv Mandir “drama” only exposes her utter disregard for Hindu sentiments.

In her Bengal, idol vandalism, Ram Navami processions facing disruption, and targeted violence have become disturbingly frequent. Law and order seems selective, and appeasement politics takes priority over justice.”

However, upon investigation, we discovered that the claim was misleading. The viral video has been clipped. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to the YouTube channel of Mamata Banerjee where the longer version of the viral video was uploaded on March 28, 2026.

From the timestamp 11:17 Mamata Banerjee says, “If one Shiv temple is demolished, BJP does so much drama over it. Demolishing temples is not right. I do not suppotr it. How many temples did BJP demolish while making the Kashi Vishwanath temple…”

She further referred the demolition of Kali Bari in Delhi.

The same video was uploaded on the official Facebook page of Mamata Banerjee.

This makes it clear that the viral video is incomplete.

Conclusion

From our investigation we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video has been clipped. Mamata Banerjee referred to the demolition of temples in Varanasi during the redevelopment of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor.
