This Video does not show British nuclear-powered submarine in the Arabian Sea

International Misleading

US President Donald Trump has reportedly offered a ceasefire plan to Iran, almost a month after the conflict began between Washington, backed by Israel, and Tehran. This comes even as the US military reportedly prepares to deploy at least 1,000 additional troops to West Asia. Amid this, a video is currently going viral on social media, claiming to show a British nuclear-powered submarine being deployed into the Arabian Sea.

The caption of the post states, “BREAKING: A British nuclear-powered Royal Navy submarine just arrived in the Arabian Sea. This contradicts what Starmer has been saying that the UK is committed to “not getting drawn into the wider conflict.” He’s lying. This is an escalation by the UK. They are now in the war.”

Let’s check the truth.

Factcheck:

Our investigation began with a reverse image search on Google, and the results led us to the original video uploaded by Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) on 20 January 2026. GBC is the national public service broadcaster for Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory on the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain. The caption states, “The Royal Navy’s second newest Astute class submarine, HMS Anson, is in Gibraltar.”

The video predates the United States–Israel war on Iran, which began on 28 February, 2026.

The Ministry of Defence had said that Gibraltar was an important hub for the Royal Navy. The original footage has the same images as the viral video.

The Daily Mail, in a report published on 21 March, claimed that a nuclear-powered Royal Navy submarine had arrived in the Arabian Sea, which had the capacity to launch cruise missile attacks. HMS Anson, which carried Tomahawk Block IV land-attack missiles, is said to take up position in the deep waters of the northern Arabian Sea.

But this viral video does not show the Royal Navy’s Nuclear-Powered submarine in the Arabian Sea; it dates back to January and is not related to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This video, recorded in January 2026, features the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy submarine HMS Anson in Gibraltar.
